Thoughts: Last thoughts
I have just completed Brief 2. I feel like my reviews have gotten better over time. I have improved my plot writing. I was concerned about me writing a whole lot of babble, and I don’t think I have really done this or not to a great extent. I also feel that I have developed my own style of writing. It’s a lot more casual than I assumed it would be. But I soon felt ok with after reading some professional views, where they were very casual and witty. I don’t think mine are quite up to their standards yet, I need to work on my wittiness in writing and/or how it is portrayed. As I’m not sure everyone will get it. My reviews may be aimed at a certain type of people (I’m not sure who) rather than a general audience though, as I’m not sure older people will appreciate my laxed out approach. One of the reasons I had such a casual approach was to relate to my reader. I feel if they thought they could relate to what I was saying that they would appreciate my review more and actually take my advice on whether to see it or not. Which I feel is the whole point of a review.
Thoughts: First thoughts on Brief 2
I have just decided on what I am going to do for my Brief 2, thanks to Frank. Writing movie blogs sounds like it could be quite a bit of fun, I get to go to the movies all the time and I can socialize at the same time as doing an ‘assignment’. It sounds like the best assignment ever. Although I’m sure it’s not going to be as easy or as fun as it sounds. From here it sounds like my difficulties will be writing in a professional manner or maybe I will just have my own sort of style (kind of like bloggers do)? I’m not quite sure yet, I guess I’ll know when I start writing them.
Thoughts: 14th Oct
In out tutorial this week we got given the assessment criteria for Brief 2. It says that for out blogs it needs to be over 1200 words and that we need to have 8 blogs. This is my 6th blog and all my blogs are relatively short. So at the moment I am going through all my weekly blogs, trying to expand on a few points and add anything I may have been feeling about this Brief at the time, but that I did not write down.
Thoughts: Week 5
This week I had to watch a new movie because I felt I couldn’t remember the ones I watched in the mid semester break well enough to write a review on it. This time I felt I went into the theatre and had my critic hat on. Because I was watching it trying to point out all the things I didn’t like about it, rather than just watching the movie like normal (like I did with the other movies). I only really noticed that I did this when I was writing my reviews, because I felt like I liked the movie better when I came out of theatre (last night) than I did this morning when I started writing. I still didn’t feel that good about it last night though. Hopefully I don’t get into the habit of doing this with all the movies I watch, so they don’t all disappoint me in the future. I also went into writing my review hoping that the professional review I found would comment on the old one and compare them and then I could talk about how I went into it, not knowing anything about it. Sadly this was to no avail. I feel it would have made my comparison better.

Thoughts: Week 4
This week I think I still need to work on my length. I’m finding writing a long review quite difficult, because I’m not very good at expanding on what I’m writing. When I try to, it sounds like a load of babble. I think I have become better with not writing babble. I do think I’m improving though, I think my plot writing is a lot better. So far I have really enjoyed all the movies, so I think I’m trying to be tougher on the movies (whether I notice it or not), because it doesn’t seem very good or like I’m trying hard enough if I like all the movies. But in actual fact I think it’s making it more difficult for me, because I need to find new ways to portray how I feel about the movies Because I can’t say the same thing every week. Next week is my last one, so I’m hoping it’s going to be really good and quite impressive. Hopefully it also shows what I have learnt about writing movie reviews.
